The Fauquier County board of Supervisors at their November meeting unanimously adopted a resolution which increased the compensation for the Fauquier County Water and Sewer Authority (WSA) Board members. When the vote on this increase in compensation was taken two members of the BOS were members of the WSA board, shortly after the vote, Winkelmann was appointed to the WSA Broad. The resolution provides for a monthly salary of $600 for the chairperson and $500 for the other members. This wonderful documents also allows for the sum of $100 per meeting, not to exceed $12,000 per member. A little 6th grade math and we have a maximum of $91,200 being available for compensation, this would require each board member to be at 120 special meeting each per year. Remember that this compensation is being provided by people that use the system. The cost of health insurance is not included in this amount. No WSA Board member is a user or rate payer of the system.
With the WSA having a customer base of approximately 6,600, the annual cost of per customer of WSA to support the Board members and additional compensation is approximately $14.00.
